In researching artists for Black Music Month this fact about Roberta Flack’s career was news to me: Her debut album, First Take, didn’t really take flight until Clint Eastwood chose the song “The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face” for the soundtrack of his directorial debut Play Misty for Me.  It became the biggest song of 1972, it earned her a Grammy award in 1973 for Record of the Year, and subsequently Roberta and Clint have been life-long friends ever since.
