Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Audioslave

Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Audioslave (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Chris Cornell, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the group Soundgarden surprised a young fan sitting in the audience during a performance at the Roxy Theatre.  Fan Arnie Sallan, 16 years old at the time was called onstage by Cornell to accompany him on the Soundgarden song “Fell on Black Days,” written by Cornell.

The impromptu “jam session” with the young fan made it to YouTube and received thousands of views.  Young Sallan maintained his composure while rocking the stage with the mega star who said “He was on it,” to the cheering audience.  In truth, this young man by his sheer ability to maintain his cool and play along with the song (no missteps either), gained the respect of who knows how many people in the audience as well as Cornell himself.  Great song and great performance by the “trio” completed by young Sallan.

Why am I even writing about this?!  Well, we talk about mega star performers and their crappy attitudes and mistreatment of fans or simply not acknowledging the worth of the fan, quite a bit.  Yes there are some performers that forget the fan is what actually makes them huge in the first place.  THIS particular event is a shining example on HOW mega stars become so AND how they make their fans feel special.  Cornell didn’t have to speak to this young fan, didn’t have to bring him on stage and DEFINITELY didn’t have to let him jam live with him during his performance.  This was some very cool stuff and I don’t understand why none of the media outlets picked up the story…it’s a great human interest piece…great fan engagement story…a great “dream come true” story…simple as that and deserves some shine.

Lastly, it doesn’t matter that this event happened in 2010, yes three years ago, it is still one of the best examples I can find of artist engagement with their fans which we as publicists preach about to our clients on a daily basis.

Besides, Arnie Sallan held his own on stage with 2x Grammy Award winner Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, one of the seminal bands in the creation of “grunge,” isn’t that a good fan story?  Hell yes it is!

Here’s a quote about Arnie from his  dad Bruce Sallan, creator of “A Dad’s Point of View,” “…He’s a freshman at The Berklee College of Music. When he was sixteen, he talked his way on stage with his idol – Chris Cornell – at a small benefit concert at The Roxy on Sunset. I think THAT video on YouTube is what helped him get accepted to Berklee, given he had NO grades and didn’t even take the SATs! He did audition – on drums – which has become his primary instrument though now he’s playing around being a DJ. He is multi-faceted, to say the least.” Congrats Bruce on such a great young man…he’s obviously a motivated go-getter like his dad.

Check the performance video, it’s really awesome:

Who is Jacob Sunday, and where are you from?
Jacob Sunday is someone who loves to make the best music possible for his fans. He loves giving his fans what they want to hear. I’m extremely chill and really laid back most of the time which is probably another reason why I keep a lot of women in my fan base. Jacob Sunday gives them good music and a positive attitude as a good double dosage of fun, but I can’t get mad at that! But I was born and raised in San Diego, California. I lived there until I was 15, and then moved out to the East Coast in Virginia.
Describe the music scene in your city?
The music scene is real vivid if I can put it in one word. Club and Rave scenes are amazing, and the DMV is real crazy at times with the shows me and my team put out. It’s very diverse here, being in the boarders of D.C, Maryland and Virginia, you get everything over here. I’d say very  modern and by far up to date with everything that’s going on with music entertainment.
What was one of your hardest struggles while making it as an artist?
One of the hardest times for me, was probably when I went out looking for a second job for about 4 and a half hours straight to help get more money to record songs. Hard work will always pay off.
Describe your style?
My Music is very universal, I get statements from people commenting on being either a pop, r&b, hip hop, or alternative entertainer.  But I also do dubstep songs as well, so there’s that too. Simply universal. Great for a wide variety of fans though.
Who and what are your influences?
First of course God is my number one Influence, and with out him I definitely could have  never done any of  this. My music influences are probably Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Queen, Pink Floyd, and a lot more of the 70s and 80 genre. I’m a real old head when it comes to what I usually listen too. I haven’t even listened the radio in I don’t know how long.
You recently signed a deal with SMG/Universal, how does that feel for you?
Very blessed  is always the first thing I think of. It feels great knowing I’ll be in stores and get to go on some really big tours. I’m glad I joined The Smoke Box Music family, I’m very proud.
What is the first project you will put out under your new label?
The first project under SMG/Universal will be my new E.P. “No Lies“. It’ll be in stores nation wide soon. I’ll be getting the release date here soon, so I’m pretty excited. If you want to know more about, it I’ll have it on www.jacobsunday.com. I have a blog on my website that I post to  inform my fans of what’s all going on.

All Rolls Everything; Trinidad James Parody

All Rolls Everything by http://PoppinMedia.com

All Rolls Everything is about the funniest parody I have ever seen.  The Hip Hop world is in an uproar because of newcomer Trinidad James and his “All Gold Everything” hot mess of a video, but man it WORKED and James signed a two million dollar recording contract to one of the major labels.  Most of the serious rappers shared their disgust at the artists known as Trinidad James who at the time of his signing had less than twelve months on the job as a “real” rapper when he signed.

This parody is so funny and has logged over 3 million views on YouTube and heaven forgive me but this is JUST the type of silliness that could go viral and land these guys a record deal…we will then go from the nonsensical to the utterly ridiculous in short order within the borders of the Hip Hop community.  Enough of my jabber…check this video…it really is funny as anything I have seen lately…better than some comedy movies…what do YOU think?!

Please rate this post because I am actually keeping score on this one!!!

Last but not least, I found this video via the Grimes Promotions Blog thanks Charel!!!

Cammo Crown Royal bags

Last month I told you about the “Pass The Crown” program I was able to participate in to help support the men and women in our United States military that are overseas. It was a promotional event set up by Crown Royal to show our appreciation for the troops around the holidays. Every time someone used the phrase “Pass The Crown” on Twitter, Facebook, or YouTube Crown Royal sent a bag of goodies to the U.S. servicemen and women who will not be home for the holidays.

I am ecstatic to report that there were more than 1,400 Crown Royal camouflage bags that were sent to the U.S. military. I was happy to be able to do my part and help out as much as I could to show my support and thanks to the brave men and women who help make this country great. If you are interested in finding out more on this phenomenal program check out the Crown Royal Heroes Project.

Celebrity Model and DJ Nicole Chen with Paris Hilton

Nicole Chen

Singapore – Celebrity model and DJ Nicole Chen and her associated record label responded to allegations that she took credit for another DJs unauthorized remix. Italian DJ Allessandro Vinai has accused Chen of taking credit for his bootleg remix of Niki Minaj’s “Pound the Alarm” according to Asiaone.com’s “Showbiz” page. (Ang, asiaone.com 2012)

In a November 9, 2012 article by Benson Ang of Singapore based “The New Paper,” Allessandro Vinai admitted to stealing and creating a “bootleg” mix of the song “Pound the Alarm” by Cash Money Records artist Nicki Minaj. Vinai later accused Chen, a well known international DJ and remixer, of stealing his admittedly stolen mix.

Vinai brazenly uploaded a YouTube video showing him creating his stolen mix and then posted it on his Facebook page.

In a message to The New Paper, Chen responded, “There is absolutely no truth to the alleged accusations of me plagiarizing anybody’s work.” She continued “I am currently seeking legal advice and will reserve further comment till then.”

Chen is a former beauty queen and was crowned Miss Earth Singapore in 2007. Since that time, she has earned a reputation as a first-class DJ and has performed at festivals across asia. In October of 2012 during an event in Bangkok, Thailand, Chen was photographed with American Socialite Paris Hilton. Paris Hilton joined Chen in the DJ booth during the event. There are talks of Chen and Hilton teaming up for Hilton’s DJ world premier. The attack by Vinai has unfairly created shadows of a negative light on the international DJs character.
