Hunting Season is Over

Moments….hours…days….weeks after the George Zimmerman verdict my heart still aches and I still have yet to completely understand. I can still see the look in my son’s eyes and the echoing of his words on my eardrums when the verdict was announced.  His eyes lost a bit of sparkle that day as he mouthed the words, “Oh My God, Are you serious?” over and over again.

In those moments, I knew it was time to change the way I perceived my village and its inhabitants.  We can no longer wait on others to champion a cause.  It’s time to activate that still small voice inside of you that tells you to act and allow it to scream out against the injustices you see.  We save our kids by engaging, knowing, demanding, and standing.

  1. Engage our youth.  Let’s stop ignoring them.  Say hello when you pass by them.  Ask their names…
