Musical royalty came together on WGN TV with Chuck D, Gene Barge and Gary U.S. all at one table, ready to talk about the retreatment of the classic song “Quarter to Three”. The Quarter to Three song was originally released by Gary U.S. Bonds in 1961 and conveys the classic ‘All American’ doo-wop sound. The idea of revisiting the track came from Chuck D, who at Rock’n’Roll Harlem suggested to the other two music legends a future collaboration. From the initial proposal and a few phone calls later, Quarter to Three is currently in the process of a makeover and it is scheduled to be released later this year. We can expect a hip-hop drive to the revamped track contributed by Daddy-O from Stetsasonic, combining the the ‘old’ feeling of the original track with a hip hop element, fusing the two genres together. The artist hope that this will encourage younger and older generations to listen and be more open to different genres of music, and ultimately bring people together. During the interview, the discussion of music and education was briefly covered. The general opinion on the topic, especially from Chuck D and Gene Barge, was that music and the arts need to become more of a priority within schools in America. “If you get the arts and music in school systems from kindergarten to grade 12, it will help create a better society” Chuck D mentioned.
