Chicago rapper Pinqy Ring tells story of child sexual abuse

Pinqy Ring ‘Little Hearts’

“After finally unpacking some heavy heartache, Latina rapper Pinqy Ring is ready to be brave and share her story through song. After dealing with childhood sexual abuse in the church at the hands of two different men, her life veered off into a path of destruction. After a car accident that left her in a coma, she realized she needed to straighten out.

Part of her “straightening out” involved undertaking the daunting task of facing what happened to her and finally dealing with it. After going through therapy on her own, she revealed her troubled past to her sister, mother, friends and family. Then, she decided the world needed to hear this story.

There are so many young girls and boys who are victims of childhood sexual abuse. Every two minutes someone is sexually assaulted. Talking about it is the first way to stop it. Pinqy teamed up with to help educate, create awareness, and get the much needed support even she still needs.

The song was produced by EZ of Force One Seven, and was mixed by Papi Beatz from LPeezy Studios. Pinqy Ring will be starting The Pinqy Project in 2014, where she tours schools performing, telling her story and encouraging other youth to tell their narratives.

Sexual abuse and molestation is NOT okay. If anyone is touching you or making your feel uncomfortable, please tell someone and contact the police immediately! #LittleHearts

( – The original lead singer of the Kingsmen, Jack Ely (pronounced e-lee), has released his most recent LP album, a modern gospel record called “Love Is All Around You Now.”  The record includes thirty six minutes of spirit-filled music from one of rock ‘n roll’s most influential rockers.  “Love Is All Around You Now” is free from all pretense, every lyric penned with obvious earnestness and passion for the underlying meaning and mission.  Composed with the complexity and humble intellectuality that characterizes much of the music written in the nineteen-sixties, some of the tracks on “Love Is all Around…” sound like folk anthems not unlike the best of Dylan or Baez, while others sound more like psalms of praise and worship no music listener will be surprised to hear in progressive churches even thirty years from now.

The record is not-at-all without backbone, however, which should not surprise fans of Ely himself, whose fame is largely garnered from the unstoppable, legendary classic rock single, “Louie, Louie,” recorded by his original band, the Kingsmen, in 1963.  The record has elements of funk, as in the fourth track, “Since the First Time I Touched His Hem” (an allusion to Biblical miracles worked by Christ when afflicted persons reached out to touch his robe), as well as elements of groove, as in the title track, “Love Is All Around…,” and there are – naturally – elements of low, low-down blues rock, as in “See the Light.”

Walk Off The Earth Release R.E.V.O. EP Video for

Walk Off The Earth have released a brand new video for original song “Red Hands,” which premiered on NPR’s All Songs Considered. The group are already known for their innovative, unique homemade videos, and this one is no different.

NPR’s Bob Boilen calls the video “high-concept but homemade, a little like the work of director Michel Gondry or the videos made by OK Go. It’s a bit of a visual puzzle.”

The video, directed by Ellis Bahl, was shot in a single take in a warehouse in LA, and required the band to perform the song out of order and at different speeds to achieve the effect of jumping through time.

Bahl explains, “We shot it on a steady-cam and walked backwards down the whole hallway with the band walking forwards performing the out of order song towards the camera. We only had enough supplies/daylight for ten takes and finally got it on the last one. It was really scary, but the payoff was immense.”

In an era when record sales are plummeting and the economy is trapped in a never-ending recession, it’s hard to believe that indie labels are some of the most consistently successful forces in Hip Hop today. So producer/writer Chris “SPanky” Moss caught up with the heads of indie Hip Hop powerhouses Duck Down Records, Strange Music, Rhymesayers Entertainment and Mello Music Group for an in-depth interview about making it on the independent grind.
